Nursing Apprenticeship in Germany

Jobri Consultancy offers a unique opportunity for African students to take up a nursing apprenticeship in Germany. A nurse apprenticeship in Germany is a dual combination of theoretical lessons in a vocational school and practical work in a German hospital or Care Home. This apprenticeship system is highly regulated whereby one learns through a mix of working in the hospital or Care Home and also attending a vocational school.

Duration of the apprenticeship

Becoming a nurse in Germany requires a three-year professional dual apprenticeship. Nurse apprenticeship learners will spend 2500 hours on the workplace and 2100 hours in school.

Language requirements

To qualify for an apprenticeship as a nurse in Germany, you need German language skills at level B2 and higher. Our team is dedicated to supporting trainees through the process of learning German, including training, and providing materials to help you achieve the language proficiency requirement. How much can you earn as a nurse in Germany?

The apprenticeship allows you to earn while you learn. Currently (2021/22), trainees earn at least € 1000 gross per month in the first year of training. The amount increases in the following two years, and in the second and third year of apprenticeship, you can earn up to around € 1,200 gross per month. The amount of the allowance depends on the employer and the city in which you are doing the apprenticeship.

What qualifications do I need to have?

A high school leaving certificate is required to apply for an apprenticeship as a nurse in Germany. Additional qualifications such as other vocational school qualifications or a degree are often an advantage, but not a requirement.
